Our story
Orthofeet, Inc. was founded in 1984 by Ron Bar and his brother Michael Bar.
Ron Bar earned a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology and Michael Bar earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the same institute. The real story of Orthofeet, however, lies in Ron Bar's motivation for the company. As a young soldier, Ron Bar lost his leg. From this tragedy was born Orthofeet. Ron realized early on that the traditional method of taking an impression of a patient's foot was cumbersome and often inaccurate. After completing his degrees, he set out to design insoles, foot orthoses and shoes that were better suited to his condition and that of other people with mobility issues. Ron's brother Michael joined him, bringing his expertise as a mechanical engineer. Together they developed a method that allowed the orthosis to mold directly to the shape of the foot using expandable polyurethane foam activated by water. This patented orthosis allows for a more precise and dynamic adjustment to the contours of the foot, improving fit and comfort. In 2000, Orthofeet used its expertise in foot biomechanics and orthotic design to launch a line of comfortable orthopedic shoes that combined attractive design with innovative comfort features. Ron's personal tragedy led to what is now a highly successful company that improves the lives of millions of customers worldwide.
